Four people during freediving course in bali

Introduction…

Freediving is possible for all, regardless of your background or experience. Our level 1 course involves individualised coaching at different ability levels, within a small group (maximum 3 students per instructor). We want you to have fun and feel safe. Enjoying the ocean in this relaxed and supportive atmosphere is the best context for developing new skills. We help a wide range of students, from spear fishermen that want to get deeper for longer, to those who have a fear of water and everything in between. In open water, you take turns to individually dive with the instructor and get feedback specific to you.

Location…

The school is based in the peaceful village area of Jemeluk bay. For Google Maps click here. We walk 2 minutes to the beach and dive in the bay, no boat rides required.

Preparation…

The best preparation is to try snorkelling with no life jacket. If you enjoy snorkelling, you can enjoy freediving too. Looking into “Frenzel equalisation technique” is also recommended. We provide a guide for this prior to the course and cover it again during classroom sessions.

Why choose Fathom for your Course? What makes us unique?

 No chlorine, more ocean…

We do our confined water (pool) session the shallow waters of the bay, sheltered from currents and right on the edge of a coral reef. This tranquil section of calm water is the perfect space to practice skills before going to deeper water. We prefer exposing our instructors and students to natural water bodies rather than chlorinated, ungrounded swimming pools. The ocean is more enjoyable, more interesting and less toxic. We do occasionally use a chlorinated pool when the ocean tide is very low, but this is not our first choice.

Colour graded, higher quality photos…

Photos taken by the instructor on your open water session will be processed after the course by our photographer. They will use Lightroom© software to improve clarity and colour, making the photos nicer for social media posting. Photos will be uploaded in resolution: 1536×2048 pixels. We are the only school in Amed that does this type of colour work on your photos. For examples check our facebook page.

Lunch included…

Indonesian ‘Nasi Campur’ (translated: ‘rice mix’) is delivered to the school, ready immediately after you finish water sessions. To see the two set menu options (carnivore and herbivore/plant-based), click here.

Most people love the food and often ask for the name and location… Restaurant is called “Super Pedas”, located here:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/gEEj4Nr7GcMa38YR6.

Freedive gear and equipment…

We provide high-end freediving specific equipment. If you have your own feel free to bring it.
